Humanity has always been fascinated by speed and people going beyond the normal limits of the human body! The following 5 persons are defying everything that was thought to be humanly possible through their perseverance, hard work, talent and for some of them genetic blessings!
Although times have changed and some may argue that we can not compare the past with the present since now the technology is different and circumstances have change, we build a top 5 world’s fastest people based on the data we have so far.
After we have done our research we were left with these 5, so let’s get into it!
Fastest People In The World:
#5 Tommie Smith
Tommie Smith is the first person in the world to break the 20 second barrier at the 200 meter dash race back in ’68 at the Summer Olympics. He managed to finish it in 19.83 seconds! What caused a lot of controversy and made Tommie even more memorable than breaking the record was his Black Power salute, wearing a black glove on his hand during the ceremony, remaining a symbolic moment in the American Civil Rights Movement to this day!
#4 Justin Gatlin
Gatlin was considered the fastest man in the world, until he was laid off for a doping suspension that lasted him 4 years. He won 6 consecutive NCAA titles in just 2 seasons, and established a new world record of 9.77 seconds back in 2006. Although he returned in 2010, he managed to score just bronze at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games with a time very close to his original record 9.79
#3 Tyson Gay
Tyson Gay is the second fastest human in the world! That might make you wonder why is he then on the 3rd position in our ranking?! We’ll get to that in a second, but first let’s take a look at Tyson. He’s 100 meter dash personal record is 9.71 back in 2009 World Championships where he scored second place. It was unbelievable that it wasn’t Gold Medal Worth making it the best non-winning time in the history of the event!
#2 Jesse Owens
Jesse Owens won the gold medal at the Berlin Games, when he finished the 100 meter-dash race in just 10.3 seconds and the 200 meter-dash in 20.7 seconds! But wait, although the results are impressive it doesn’t even come close to the others in this top 5, so why is Jesse on the second place? Well, Owens got those times back in 1936, in dirt. Can you imagine his performance on synthetic track, with modern technology equipment and training? He could have easily take Bolt for a run on his money! The best analysts are sure that in modern day conditions Jesse Owens could have easily run under 9.7.
#1 Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world! He is considered a modern day running machine holding the world records for the 3 most wanted distances: 9.58 seconds for 100 meters; 19.19 for 200 meters and 14.35 for 150 meters. In 2013 Bolt become three-time 200 meter World Champion securing his position as the ultimate athlete! It seems very unlikely that anyone will ever be able to surpass he’s performance making him the fastest person in world history!
